Gen V takes The Boys' satirical universe and moves it to a college campus, which turns out to be a better setting for this kind of story than you might expect. The show follows students at Godolkin University, the only accredited college for superhumans in America, where the curriculum includes branding seminars and the social hierarchy runs on social media metrics rather than anything resembling character. Jaz Sinclair carries the series as Marie Moreau, a blood-manipulating scholarship student who grew up in a Vought-run group home after a childhood accident, and she brings enough grounded anxiety to the role that you believe in her ambitions even as the world around her gets increasingly unhinged.

The tone sits in a specific register that The Boys sometimes struggles to hold: sharply critical of the way corporations absorb and redirect idealism, but also willing to slow down and let its characters feel things. The college setting gives the show natural material about conformity, competition, and the distance between who you are and who you perform to be. It is not subtle. The gore is still very much present, a few set pieces push the gross-out dial past the point of diminishing returns, and the social commentary occasionally tips into the obvious. But the character work is sharper here than in its parent series, and the cast, particularly Lizze Broadway and Hamish Linklater, rewards the extra attention.

Critics received the first season warmly, appreciating that it justified its own existence. Audiences tracked slightly cooler, with some finding the pacing uneven in the middle stretch, which is fair. Season two arrived in 2025 and Prime Video cancelled the show shortly after, which cuts off a narrative that had clearly been building toward something larger.

The cancellation is the most frustrating thing about Gen V in the end. It found a genuinely distinct identity within a crowded superhero-adjacent space, and Sinclair's performance in particular deserved a proper conclusion.

Gen V never quite escaped the shadow of what it was spun off from, and in a world where streaming budgets are under constant scrutiny, a show that performs adequately rather than outstandingly is exactly the kind of project that gets quietly wound down.
