By the time Season 4 arrived in 2023, the producers and Amazon had essentially agreed that the story had run its course. The final season was shorter, tighter, and structured like a conclusion rather than a setup for more. There was no dramatic cancellation here. The creative team knew from relatively early in that final run that they were closing things out, and the season was shaped accordingly.

It is also worth noting the economics. Jack Ryan is an expensive show, the kind that requires location shoots across multiple countries and a cast and crew budget that scales up every year. Prime Video, like every streamer in the post-pandemic contraction period, has grown more cautious about renewing costly productions indefinitely when a natural endpoint exists. A clean four-season run, with strong enough ratings to claim success, is a perfectly acceptable outcome for a streamer. Dragging it into a fifth or sixth season just to keep the IP alive would have risked diluting what the show actually accomplished.
