Critics and audiences seemed to adore it in the abstract but struggled to actually watch it. The show earned strong reviews and has an 8.3 rating on IMDb from those devoted enough to rate it, yet NBC cancelled it after two seasons. It was always a cult show, and perhaps it needed to be one. Among procedurals, Life sits apart from the formula shows because it barely is one.
