What Glenn Gordon Caron built here is primarily a portrait of a marriage, and Jake Weber's Joe Dubois, an aerospace engineer who has to absorb his wife's increasingly disruptive psychic life with patience and occasional exasperation, is one of the more underrated husbands in network television history.

The tone sits somewhere between procedural comfort and genuine unease. Medium never went full horror, but it took its dreams seriously. The show had a recurring willingness to mess with structure, sometimes staging entire episodes inside Allison's dream logic before pulling the rug, and those episodes tended to be the most memorable.
