Predictive Logic Analysis

Grimm has concluded its run. Production records list the series as ended, meaning the story has been brought to a planned close rather than left open. Barring a revival, there is no Season 7 in development.

What is Grimm about?

Portland homicide detective Nick Burkhardt discovers, fairly early on, that fairy tales are real and that his family has spent centuries hunting the creatures in them. That premise could have gone badly wrong on network television, reduced to a monster-of-the-week procedural with mythology stapled on top. Grimm is, in fact, partly that, but it works better than it should.

The show's tone is where it finds its footing. It is not campy, not self-serious, and genuinely committed to its Pacific Northwest atmosphere, all rain and forest and unsettling folklore. The creature designs lean into European fairy tale origins rather than generic horror, which gives the show a texture that sets it apart from similar urban fantasy attempts of the same era. The real discovery, though, is Silas Weir Mitchell as Monroe, a reformed Blutbad (wolf-creature, essentially) who becomes Nick's reluctant expert and eventually his closest friend. Monroe carries a warmth and dry humor that the show honestly would have been duller without, and his eventual relationship with Rosalee gives the series something approximating an emotional center.

Audiences responded steadily if not explosively. An IMDb rating just under 8 from well over a hundred thousand votes reflects a show that built genuine loyalty over six seasons without ever quite breaking into prestige conversation. Critics were lukewarm early on, noting the procedural scaffolding as a constraint, though most acknowledged the mythology deepened meaningfully as the series progressed and the serialized elements took over more of each season.

The comparison that keeps coming to mind is Buffy, not in quality but in approach: genre as a lens for character, with a consistent ensemble that grows more interesting the longer you spend with it. Grimm is messier than that, and its final season drew real frustration from fans who felt the ending was rushed. But 122 episodes is a long run, and the middle stretch of this show, roughly seasons two through four, is genuinely confident television.

The series is listed as ended

Why did Grimm end?

Grimm ran for six seasons on NBC, which by broadcast network standards is a respectable run, and the show ended because its creative team decided to wrap things up rather than push further into diminishing returns. By season five and six, the ratings had dropped considerably from the early years when the show reliably pulled in around eight to ten million viewers. Season six, a shortened run of thirteen episodes, was a clear signal that NBC and the producers had agreed to bring the story to a close on their own terms rather than face an outright cancellation.

The decision to end with a final shortened season is actually a sign of the show landing on something of a dignified exit. Grimm had always been a quirky fit for NBC, a broadcast network that generally prefers procedurals without the serialized mythological baggage that the show accumulated over the years. As the Wesen lore got more elaborate and the ongoing storylines harder to enter for casual viewers, the audience that remained was loyal but small. Networks do not cancel shows they have already agreed to let finish, and Grimm's producers clearly negotiated that final chapter rather than being cut off mid-story.

It is worth noting that a 7.9 on IMDb reflects genuine affection from the fanbase that stuck with the show. Grimm was never prestige television, but it found its audience and kept them engaged for six years, which is more than most genre shows on broadcast networks manage. Ending at season six, with a proper finale, was probably the right call for everyone involved.

Grimm Season 7 Release Date

No new season is expected. Grimm has ended, so there is no upcoming release to anticipate unless a revival is announced.
