He reasons his way through evidence using real neuroscience, or at least a version plausible enough that you stop questioning it. That's the show's actual appeal. The tone is professional but never grim. Perception sits somewhere between the earnest police procedural and the more theatrical character studies that were popular on cable in the 2010s.
