What is MobLand about?

MobLand drops you into a turf war between two organized crime families with enough firepower and grudge to burn down everything they've built. Tom Hardy plays Harry Da Souza, caught between his own survival and the gravitational pull of the Harrigans, a dynasty fronted by Pierce Brosnan's Conrad and rounded out by a dangerous bench of relatives played by Paddy Considine, Lara Pulver, and Anson Boon. The show doesn't waste time on origin stories or redemption arcs. It's about people who made certain choices a long time ago and are now living inside those choices while new generations inherit the violence.

What distinguishes MobLand is its refusal to glamorize the work. Created by Ronan Bennett, who spent time on Banished and The Tunnel, the show treats crime as a business that corrodes everyone it touches, from the kingpins down to the young muscle trying to prove themselves. The tone is cold and propulsive. Stylishness takes a back seat to tension built through conversation and glances, not just action. Helen Mirren arrives late as Maeve Harrigan, the family matriarch, and her presence seems to shift the whole weight of the show toward something older and more ruthless than Conrad's tenure allowed.

Critics and audiences have warmed to it substantially. The IMDb score sits at 8.3 across more than 100,000 votes, which signals real engagement. Viewers seem drawn to the ensemble cast chemistry and to Bennett's willingness to let conflicts simmer instead of exploding on schedule. Two seasons in and the show hasn't outstayed its premise, which is the danger most crime dramas face.

The comparison to Peaky Blinders is inevitable but not quite right. MobLand is more European in its sensibility, less concerned with mythology or period detail. It's interested in the administrative side of running a criminal organization and what happens when the administration breaks down. It's a show about power that doesn't pretend power is interesting in itself.
