When Does Lioness Season 3 Come Out? Is It Renewed?

What is Lioness about?

Taylor Sheridan keeps expanding his television footprint, and Lioness is his attempt at a CIA action thriller built around the kind of embedded undercover work that requires a handler to send someone else into danger. Zoe Saldaña plays Joe, the station chief running the Lioness program, and she brings a worn authority to the role that the show genuinely needs. Without her, this would be considerably thinner.

The tone is serious, sometimes self-importantly so. Sheridan clearly wants Lioness to feel like it belongs alongside Homeland or Zero Dark Thirty, and there are stretches where it earns that comparison, particularly when the show focuses on the psychological cost of asking a young woman to build a false identity close to a target. Laysla De Oliveira as Cruz carries much of that weight, and she is good enough that the show's weaker, more procedural moments feel like distractions from what she is doing. The action sequences are competent but rarely surprising. What actually holds attention is the ethical friction between Joe and the people above her in the chain of command, played by a reliably watchable Michael Kelly and Nicole Kidman, whose presence in the first season gave the show a certain seriousness of purpose.

Critics were reasonably warm without being enthusiastic. Audiences pushed it past the threshold where Paramount+ kept investing, and the ratings reflect genuine interest rather than algorithmic inertia. A 7.8 on IMDb across a significant number of votes suggests the show found a loyal audience that forgives its occasional speechifying.

What it does better than most in the genre is resist the urge to make Cruz a superhero. She gets hurt, makes bad decisions, and the show is honest about what undercover work does to a person's sense of self. That specificity is what separates Lioness from the glossier end of the spy drama market.
