The later seasons introduced new villains, the Ori among them, but there's a sense that the writers were working hard to keep a mythology fresh that had naturally run its course.

The show moved from Showtime to Sci Fi Channel after its fifth season, and that transition actually extended its life considerably. But by season ten, Sci Fi had Atlantis running alongside it and was developing what would become Stargate Universe.
