Indira Varma as Safiya Masry, Aaron's civil rights attorney partner, brings credibility and a spark to the outside world, and Joy Bryant's Marie, Aaron's ex-wife, gets scenes that explore how wrongful conviction devastates not just the accused but everyone bound to him.

The show landed reasonably well with critics and audiences who found it, pulling a 7.6 rating on IMDb. But it never quite built the cultural footprint a show about wrongful conviction might seem primed for, and ABC canceled it after two seasons and 23 episodes. It exists in the shadow of shows like How to Get Away with Murder or Suits that found ways to make legal maneuvering feel urgent and flashy.
