Emily Procter gets decent material as Calleigh Duquesne, a cheerful gun expert who is more interesting than the scripts usually allow.

Critics were never particularly kind to the show, and its IMDb rating of 6.5 reflects a certain affectionate ambivalence from audiences who know what they were watching. It was not prestige television. It did not try to be. Reviewers noted the lurid plotting, the implausible science, and the unrelenting visual excess, and most of them were correct to do so. None of that stopped tens of millions of people from tuning in every Monday night.

Compared to the original CSI or the New York spinoff, Miami leaned hardest into style over substance, and it paid off commercially for years before the ratings eventually slid and CBS wound things down after season ten.
