Naomie Harris, as a woman drawn into Faraday's orbit, carries much of the emotional weight. Bill Nighy appears as a mysterious figure from the past, bringing a different kind of intensity to scenes that might otherwise drift.

The reception was mixed to cool. Critics appreciated the performances, particularly Ejiofor's stillness, but found the show's glacial pacing and refusal to clarify its own stakes frustrating.
