Critics were largely indifferent, treating it as competent fan service. Audiences were warmer, and the IMDb score of 7.9 from tens of thousands of voters suggests it found a genuine following among people who wanted exactly what it advertised. It is not trying to be more than it is, which is either a virtue or a missed opportunity depending on your patience for MacFarlane's brand of nostalgia-wrapped raunchiness.

The show ran two seasons and fifteen episodes before ending, which feels about right. It told the story it set out to tell, and the tagline, "You can't spell 'family' without FML," is a more accurate summary of the show's sensibility than anything else you could write about it.

Two seasons let the show be fun and nostalgic without bumping too hard into that ceiling. Ending at fifteen episodes keeps it tight, and in the current era of television that's not a failure. It's actually a reasonable way to leave something intact.
