Carlyle played him as genuinely untrustworthy in ways that made the crew's paranoia feel earned. The series was darker and messier than typical Stargate fare, leaning into claustrophobia and the psychological toll of isolation rather than the problem-solving adventure the franchise was known for. It had a serialized, dramatic sensibility that owed more to Lost than to the episodic exploration model fans expected.

Critics appreciated the ambition and the cast's commitment, but audiences struggled with the tonal shift. Syfy canceled it after two seasons despite a loyal viewership, partly because the network's support for science fiction was already flagging by 2010.
