What is Nightflyers about?

Nightflyers sends a crew of scientists into deep space aboard humanity's most advanced vessel, only to discover that their greatest threat is not alien contact but the fractured minds and hidden agendas of the people sharing close quarters with them. Based on a George R.R. Martin novella, the show trades standard space exploration for psychological horror, turning a research mission into a descent into paranoia and violence as the crew members begin to suspect one another of sabotage or worse.

The series moves quickly between hard sci-fi concepts and slasher-film brutality, which creates an uneven but occasionally startling effect. Syfy leans into body horror and graphic violence more than typical for the network, and the production design is sleek and claustrophobic enough to make the ship feel like a trap. The problem is that the show never quite commits to either its intellectual questions or its visceral scares.
