Ben Barnes is a lot of fun as Billy Russo, bringing a kind of preening charm to the role that makes his eventual arc in Season 2 land harder than it might have. Season 2 wobbles more than the first, trying to run two separate antagonist storylines that never quite connect, and the pacing problems that were already noticeable get worse.

Critics were broadly positive but not rapturous, with most of the praise landing on Bernthal specifically rather than the show around him. Audience scores have stayed strong, and the IMDb rating reflects a fanbase that genuinely loves what Bernthal does with this character. That loyalty is real. It's just that the show is better as a character study than as a thriller, which is a somewhat awkward fit for a character built around violent retribution.

The Netflix Marvel shows varied enormously in quality and this one sits somewhere in the middle of that particular shelf. It never quite reaches the sustained tension of the first Daredevil season, but it also never falls as flat as Iron Fist. What it does have is one of the most physically committed performances in the entire Marvel television catalog, and in its better moments, a willingness to treat the psychological cost of violence as something worth sitting with, rather than just a setup for the next fight.
