The Crown was never a ratings juggernaut in the conventional sense, but it was a prestige flagship, the kind of series that won awards and attracted subscribers and gave the platform a certain cultural seriousness. By the time Season 6 arrived in late 2023, the show had been running for seven years and the casting had turned over twice.
