Predictive Logic Analysis

Ghosts has been one of CBS's more dependable comedies since its 2021 debut. Five seasons and 94 episodes in, it has outrun most broadcast sitcom peers and sits on a strong foundation. CBS comedies that reach this point rarely get axed without warning, and the network has consistently renewed this show without drama. The IMDb rating of 7.9 across nearly 49,000 votes is healthy for a network comedy, and 9 wins plus 68 nominations shows the show has maintained industry visibility through its run.

The one soft signal is the episode rating trajectory. Season 5 is averaging 6.3 on IMDb compared to 6.9 last season, and ratings are falling within the season itself. That kind of gradual score erosion can reflect audience fatigue rather than a sudden quality drop, and it is worth watching. Still, this is a CBS show in active production, with a next episode confirmed for May 21 and zero cancellation chatter in the renewal signals. Trakt watcher momentum is steady rather than falling, and Wikipedia interest is holding. None of those point toward a show in trouble. A Season 6 pickup would be consistent with CBS's pattern for shows of this profile.

What is Ghosts about?

The American adaptation of the BBC original had every reason to fail. Remakes of beloved British comedies rarely survive the translation, and the premise, a young couple inheriting a haunted mansion and trying to run a bed-and-breakfast while the resident ghosts complicate everything, sounds like a network sitcom that would sand down all the weird edges. CBS's Ghosts did not do that, at least not entirely.

The show works because the ghost ensemble is genuinely strange and specific. You have a Revolutionary War soldier still wrestling with a secret, a 1920s jazz singer, a scout troop leader who died mid-hike, a pants-less hedge fund bro from the 90s frozen forever in his moment of greatest humiliation. The humor comes from these wildly different historical figures being stuck together in one building with nowhere to go and nothing to do but watch the living couple slowly ruin their home. Rose McIver and Utkarsh Ambudkar are warm and funny as the central couple, but the ghosts are the reason to keep watching, and the show knows it.

Critics were warmer on it than many expected, and audiences responded well enough to make it one of CBS's more reliable comedies in recent years. The IMDb rating sits solidly in respectable sitcom territory, which is about right. It is not the sharpest comedy on television, and some episodes coast on the premise without adding much to it, but the cast has real chemistry and the show earns its emotional moments without overselling them.

What separates it from the British version is a certain American optimism. The BBC show was funnier and darker. This one is more comfortable. That is a reasonable trade-off depending on what you want from it, and the running joke of Trevor's missing trousers has lasted five seasons without fully wearing out its welcome, which is a minor miracle.

Ghosts Season 6 Release Date

Season 5 is still airing as of mid-May 2026, so any Season 6 announcement would typically come during CBS's upfront presentation in mid-to-late May, which aligns closely with the current date. If renewed on the usual CBS cycle, Season 6 would most likely premiere in fall 2026, probably October, matching the show's historical premiere window. There is no confirmed pickup yet, but the timing is squarely in the window where CBS makes these decisions.
