Viewership erosion among the core young audience, combined with the rising costs of production, eventually made the economics less attractive to the network. Nickelodeon's appetite for the series simply cooled. At the same time, the show's creator Erin Alexander had indicated that the cast and creative team were ready to move on to other projects, which likely made the network's decision to end things feel like a natural stopping point rather than a shocking cancellation.

The show has endured a curious afterlife, particularly among millennial viewers who grew up with it.
