What follows is usually a lesson about why wishes go wrong, but the show is smart enough to make the lesson feel like a consequence rather than a sermon.

At its best, early in its run, The Fairly OddParents had real comic momentum. Cosmo in particular is one of the funniest characters in Nickelodeon history, an idiot whose incompetence is genuinely joyful rather than irritating.
