KITT's AI felt neutered compared to the sarcastic, argumentative computer of the 1980s series. Val Kilmer's voice work as KITT was competent but unmemorable. The action sequences tried to be flashy, but the show's network television constraints meant they landed somewhere between uninspired and forgettable.

Critics were largely unmoved, and audiences agreed. The show pulled a 5.6 on IMDb from over 10,000 votes, and NBC canceled it after a single season of 17 episodes.
