Audiences and critics ignored it with good reason. The show's 5.6 rating on IMDb reflects genuine indifference rather than active hatred. It lasted a single season and seventeen episodes because there was nothing here worth returning to week after week. Even the nostalgia factor that might have sustained casual viewers couldn't overcome how aggressively uninspired the storytelling became.

The real failure is that Knight Rider didn't need to be rebooted at all, and certainly not as a high-tech action vehicle that forgot the character work was always the point. The original lived in reruns and in memory precisely because Michael and KITT had chemistry. This version proves that you can update the technology without updating the writing, and the result is just expensive filler.
