What is DC's Stargirl about?

Stargirl works because it trusts that teenage superhero stories can be sincere without being heavy. She recruits a group of misfits (a girl with anger issues, a nerd who builds tech, a boy with a tragic backstory) and the show treats their small-town superhero team as something worth protecting. The cosmic staff is visually striking, the action sequences are bright and clean, and there's a real sense that these characters matter to each other.

Geoff Johns' creation avoids the brooding cynicism that has calcified much of the DCEU. The tone is earnest and funny by turns, willing to let teenagers be teenagers without making them insufferable.
