The first season commits hard to a noir sensibility. Kovacs is a burnt-out operative in a threadbare coat, moving through neon-soaked streets and corporate towers, interviewing suspects who have centuries of secrets stacked inside them. The show has a real visual style (cinematography that feels deliberate rather than decorative, and production design that makes the future look both lived-in and cold). The tone is dark and often violent, punctuated by occasional dry humor. What makes it distinctive is how it balances spectacle with introspection.
