Predictive Logic Analysis
Dear Friends is a long-running comedy-action reality series that premiered in 2020 and has sustained six seasons through 2025. The 13-month gap between the June 2025 finale and the current date, coupled with the absence of any renewal signal from iQiyi, prevents confident projection in either direction. The show's longevity suggests some level of platform confidence, but iQiyi's renewal practices are not transparent to most western industry watchers, and Asian streaming platforms often operate on different timelines and renewal criteria than Netflix, Amazon, or western broadcasters.
The lack of credible renewal signals, combined with the extended hiatus, introduces real uncertainty. iQiyi has shown willingness to cancel mid-tier content without much notice, and the gap between seasons could indicate either post-production work or benign neglect. Without access to iQiyi viewership data, platform statements, or reporting from Chinese entertainment media, the signal is too weak to call this show likely renewed or likely cancelled. The show's genre mix (comedy, action, reality) and steady multi-season run suggest it has held an audience, but that alone does not warrant a renewal claim without explicit confirmation.
What is Dear Friends about?
Dear Friends operates as an intimate companion piece to iQiyi's flagship comedy series HAHAHAHAHA, offering viewers an extended look behind the curtain at the creative process and daily rhythms of its core cast. Rather than simply repackaging existing material, the show positions itself as a work journal—capturing extended scenes, candid moments, and the unglamorous reality of producing comedy content at scale. This format appeals to dedicated fans who want deeper access to Deng Chao, Chen He, and their collaborators, transforming what could be mere bonus content into its own viewing experience that rewards loyalty while exploring the mechanics of humor creation.
The show inhabits an unusual space within reality television, blending documentary-style observation with the comedic sensibilities of its parent program. By framing extended scenes as journal entries, Dear Friends adopts a more reflective, behind-the-scenes aesthetic than typical comedy specials or blooper reels. This approach lends the content a sense of purpose and structure rather than feeling like leftover material, while maintaining the spontaneity and personality that audiences connect with in the primary series. The tone is deliberately intimate, inviting viewers into the workspace rather than maintaining the polished separation of traditional performance.
Since launching in late 2020, Dear Friends has established itself as a reliable value proposition for iQiyi's VIP subscription tier, with consistent viewership across six seasons and nearly 60 episodes. The format's longevity suggests it has found its audience among comedy enthusiasts and devoted followers of HAHAHAHAHA who crave additional insight into the show's creation. The program occupies a growing niche in digital entertainment where behind-the-scenes content has become as prized as the main attraction, reflecting broader audience appetite for transparency and extended engagement with creators they admire.
Is Dear Friends renewed or cancelled?
Working toward renewal
Six seasons completed, suggesting platform retention and audience
Working against it
13 months since last episode with no renewal signal
iQiyi renewal patterns opaque and unpredictable to western analysts
No credible renewal or cancellation reporting available
Dear Friends Season 7 Release Date
No confirmed release date or renewal announcement exists. If the show is renewed, iQiyi typically operates on longer gaps between seasons than western streamers, so a 2026 or 2027 return would not be unusual. The 13-month hiatus already exceeds typical Netflix or Amazon cycles, suggesting either a slower production cadence or administrative delay rather than urgent cancellation. However, without a renewal statement, any release timeline is pure speculation.
