When Does Thirteen Talks Season 10 Come Out? Is It Renewed?

What is Thirteen Talks about?

Thirteen Talks is a landmark Chinese talk show that strips away the polish of traditional broadcast television to create something more intimate and intellectually urgent. Created by and hosted by Xu Zhiyuan, the program invites prominent figures from culture, business, politics, and society to sit down for extended, unscripted conversations that dig beneath surface-level celebrity chat. The show's central appeal lies in its commitment to genuine dialogue—conversations that are allowed to meander, contradict themselves, and explore difficult terrain without the constraints of commercial breaks or rigid format. For viewers hungry for substance and depth, Thirteen Talks offers a rare opportunity to witness meaningful exchange in an age of soundbites.

The show's distinctive strength is its refusal of spectacle. There are no gimmicks, no studio audience, no manufactured drama—just two people talking in what feels like a private space. This aesthetic restraint actually amplifies the intellectual intensity; when nothing else is competing for attention, the ideas themselves become the main attraction. Xu Zhiyuan's interviewing style is conversational rather than confrontational, creating space for guests to think aloud and develop their arguments across the full arc of an episode. The production values are deliberately understated, matching the show's philosophical commitment to prioritizing substance over presentation.

Since its launch in 2016, Thirteen Talks has become a cultural institution within Chinese intellectual circles, building a devoted following among educated urban audiences who value the program's seriousness of purpose. The show's longevity—nine seasons and counting across a decade—speaks to both audience loyalty and the sustained appetite for this particular mode of conversation. Its success on Tencent Video has influenced the broader media landscape, demonstrating that long-form, idea-driven content can thrive in the streaming era when it's executed with genuine integrity and rigor.

Within the global talk show landscape, Thirteen Talks occupies a distinctive space—more akin to long-form podcasts or prestige radio interviews than to entertainment-driven talk television. It has helped establish a model for Chinese media that prizes intellectual exploration over celebrity gossip, proving that serious conversation can be both commercially viable and culturally resonant. The show's influence extends beyond its immediate viewership, shaping conversations about what public discourse can be when freed from the constraints of traditional broadcast television.
