What is Continuum about?

Continuum drops a cop from 2077 into present-day Vancouver with a group of terrorists from her own time, then asks a genuinely interesting question: what if the person sent to stop them started to understand their point? Kiera Cameron is a protector of the corporate-dominated future she comes from, but the rebels she pursues aren't mindless villains. They have legitimate grievances about a world where mega-corporations have replaced governments. The show works because it resists easy answers. Kiera can't simply arrest her way out of a problem that involves competing visions of what the future should be.

The tone is grounded action-drama rather than high-concept sci-fi spectacle. There's no flashy technology or elaborate time-travel mechanics to distract from character relationships. Kiera's partnership with Carlos, a homicide detective who doesn't know what she actually is, carries real weight because they genuinely need each other. The show also finds room for quieter moments about what it costs to be displaced in time, to live a lie, to be caught between sides you partially understand. It's not always perfectly balanced, but when it works, it feels like something more human than typical genre television.

Critics were lukewarm, and audience passion was limited despite respectable ratings for a Canadian cable show. The concept drew viewers initially, but some found the execution uneven and the time-travel elements increasingly confusing as the series progressed. What enthusiasm existed came from people who connected with the character drama more than the action sequences.
