Arlette Pinheiro Monteiro Torres CRB • GCONM • COCS • OMC (Rio de Janeiro, October 16, 1929), better known as Fernanda Montenegro, is a Brazilian actress and writer. She is often referred to as "the grand dame of Brazilian dramaturgy" and "the greatest actress in the history of Brazil" for her extensive work in cinema, theater and television. Internationally recognized, Fernanda was the first Brazilian to win the International Emmy in the best actress category for her performance in Doce de Mãe (2013), in addition to winning a Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival and receiving nominations for Golden Globe and Academy Award for best actress for her work in Central do Brasil (1998), being the first Latin American, Portuguese-speaking and Brazilian woman to be nominated in this category.Read full biography
